The curriculum is largely in line with the Scottish 5-14 guidelines.
Each
morning after a devotional time, classes follow a core curriculum. A whole school
assembly is held once a week where pupils are encouraged to contribute.
Afternoons
are occupied by environmental studies, creative subjects, Christian Ed., P.E.,
and computing. There are laptops with internet connection available in each classroom and these are in
daily use by pupils.
Regular field trips and outings are used
to make people and places more real to pupils. Most field trips are covered in
the cost of the fees. The school minibus is used for these trips.
In addition we use the expertise of those
trained in specialist subjects, both on a regular basis and also to implement
and add interest to specific projects.
All areas of
Personal and Social Development are taught throughout the school curriculum.
Children are encouraged
to take part in out-of-school activities organised by the school, church and local organisations.
Individual
music tuition is available on application to the head teacher. Children also
learn recorder in music lessons.
Also under extra Curricular we have two after school clubs - French and Art. The children also run their own savings scheme, Save by the Bell; where they learn the principles of saving and practial aspects of managing money.
The school has its own Pupil Council that meet regularly with the Headteacher about school matters that affect them. Last year they implemented plans for improving outdoor play with new 'active toys' in the playground. This year they have plans for a school magazine and healthy tuck shop.
